He is a lawyer with an extensive background in competition and product liability laws.

He now assists businesses:

  • to define their ethics to ensure alignment with the laws that govern their operations, and
  • in the development and implementation of programs aimed at ensuring compliance with the competition laws.

He is a councillor on North Sydney Council.

Expertise:

Devising, implementing and auditing competition law and product liability related compliance programs, internal reporting/monitoring procedures and on-going risk assessment programs for companies in Australia, Europe, New Zealand and the United States.

Mentoring management both as a consultant and board member as it takes the venture through start-up, initial capital raising and listing phases of development. Mentoring has been with ventures primarily in the biotechnology and minerals exploration sectors; with particular attention paid to:

  • The use of the budgeting process and expenditure control as an instrument to maintaining focus; and
  • Meeting reporting and compliance obligations set by both the Board and the law.

  • Five years managing relations for a Northern Island based energy start-up Company with governments and regulators based in Belfast, Westminster and Brussels.
  • Securing community support and regulatory approvals for the development of energy electricity generation facility.

CSR Limited
  • Devising, updating and implementing competition law compliance programs for the Australia based operations.
  • Managing a portfolio of product liability claims in Australia, New Zealand and the US (thirty-seven states).
  • Devising and implementing systems for:
    • Instructing external lawyers in diverse jurisdictions;
      Driving uniform outcomes and facilitating measurement of the effectiveness of each lawyer in delivering litigated and negotiated outcomes that fell within defined ranges; and
    • Maintaining adherence to agreed budgets.
  • Devising structures that afforded protection to assets

1974 – 1981

Commonwealth Crown Solicitor

  • Continuous secondment to the (then) Trade Practices Commission, principally involved with enforcement and public hearings.
  • Occasional secondment to an inter-department committee responsible for containing product liability exposure arising out of military activities in Vietnam.
